Armed Robbering in Kentlands by 16, 20 Year Olds – 2 Still at Large

Gaithersburg, MD. Gaithersburg Police Detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at 5:45 p.m. on June 16, 2009 at the intersection of Kentlands Boulevard and Booth Street in the Kentlands community of Gaithersburg. Two suspects are in custody and police seek help in locating two additional suspects who remain at-large.

The investigation revealed that the victim, a 20-year-old male, met with two acquaintances and an unknown male at the fountain located on Main Street in the Kentlands. They then drove to the intersection of Kentlands Boulevard and Booth Street where they met a fourth unknown male. The four males then confronted the victim, displayed a handgun, and assaulted him. The suspects took cash from the victim and fled from the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

DC Native Connie Gallerizzo Presents Arts Barn Invitational Gallery All Through July

Gaithersburg, MD. The oil paintings of Connie Gallerizzo will be on display in the Arts Barn Invitational Gallery July 1 through August 2, 2009. An artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, July 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Born and raised in the Washington, D.C metropolitan area, Gallerizzo has been painting for over 30 years. A hair color specialist by day, her paintings reflect a passion for color and an excitement for the world around her. With a painting style that echoes the bright colors and soft brushstrokes of the early Impressionists, Gallerizzo is mostly inspired by the quaint landmarks of rural Montgomery and Howard counties. She paints with a brilliant curiosity that uncovers the charm of everyday life.

Register Now For the 16th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk and Kids Fun Runs!

Kentlands/Lakelands 5kThe Kentlands Community Foundation, in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg, announces on-line registration beginning July 1, 2009 for the 16th annual 5K Race, set for Saturday, September 5. This USATF Certified 5K course winds through the award-winning and scenic New Urbanism neighborhoods of the Kentlands and Lakelands, featuring two water stops and live entertainment along the course. Not only is it the area’s largest 5K Race event, but the Race allows its charitable host, the Kentlands Community Foundation, to make a significant impact on the lives of local residents in need through its annual donation to local charities. As a nonprofit and philanthropic community-based organization, the Foundation has given nearly $100,000 back to the community since 1994. The 5K Race also serves as the opening event for Maryland’s annual Senior Olympics.

REGISTRATION FOR SENIOR OLYMPICS PARTICIPANTS (Age 50 and above):
All Maryland residents age 50 or older as of December 31, 2009 will automatically be entered to compete as a Maryland Senior Olympic entrant in this year’s race. Please note: The registration fees associated with this event allow entrance into the Maryland Senior Olympics 5K event only. Additional registration fees apply for participation in other Maryland Senior Olympic events.

Mothers, Daughters Invited to Tea at the Mansion on Flag Day

With its first planned Mother-Daughter tea in May completely selling out, the City of Gaithersburg has added a second tea to its spring schedule.  The elegant surroundings of Gaithersburg’s historic Kentlands Mansion make the perfect setting for a leisurely afternoon of quality time for mothers and daughters.  The second tea will be held on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.  An assortment of sandwiches, desserts and teas will be plated and served amidst a celebration of the American flag.

Enjoy egg salad, chicken salad, ham and turkey sandwiches, accompanied by a fresh fruit assortment of red and white grapes, pineapple and strawberries.  Rounding out the delectable meal will be patriotic cookies, brownies, lemon bars, cinnamon stars and chocolate covered bananas.  Featured teas include Earl Grey, blackberry and raspberry.

Cost for the tea is $20 per person for adults and $15 for children aged 12 and under. Kentlands/Lakelands 5K and Kid’s Fun Run T-Shirt Contest

Winning Design Goes on Race T-Shirt!

News Release from the Kentlands Community Foundation:
Kids of all ages (up to 18) are invited to send in a drawing for an art contest sponsored by the Kentlands Community Foundation. The winning design will go on the official race T-shirt for the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K and Kid’s Fun Run, hosted in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg.  The winning artist will also receive a $50 cash prize and be recognized on stage the day of the race, September 5th.

There will also be $25 cash prizes for the winner of each of the following age groups: 5 yrs. & under, 6-8 yrs, 9-11 yrs, 12-15 yrs, and 16-18 yrs.  In addition, ALL entries will be displayed at the post-race expo!  You don’t have to live in Kentlands or Lakelands to enter.

Contest Instructions

We are looking for designs that illustrate or show: how running or walking in the Race is good/healthy for people, good for our community spirit and good for the Earth and/or environment. For example, pictures showing runners & walkers helping neighbors, recycling, walking vs. driving, and/or planting trees in our community would all be acceptable.

All drawings must be received by Monday, June 8, 2009.  Drawings must be in marker (up to 4 colors – think bright colors!) on 8 ½ X 11 inch white paper.  The artist’s name, address, age and phone number must be printed on the back of the drawing. If a drawing does not include this information it will not be included in the contest judging.

Drawings can be mailed to: 5K T-Shirt Contest, Kentlands Community Foundation, 267 Kentlands Blvd, P.M.B. 200, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20878 OR you may drop off your designs in the Kentlands Community Foundation’s mailbox at the Kentlands Clubhouse.  Judging will take place in June and the winners will be announced in July.
