Rulei Bu debuts his Art Exibit, “Influence,” at City Hall on May 27th 2009

If you would like to view some of the work done by Rulei Bu and his students, see the Gaithersburg City site.

The City of Gaithersburg hosts a multi-media exhibit of the works of award-winning artist Rulei Bu and his students at the City Hall Gallery May 22 through July 19, 2009.  The Gallery is located on the second floor of City Hall, 31 S. Summit Avenue in Olde Towne, Gaithersburg.  An artists’ reception will be held on Wednesday, May 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Rulei Bu graduated in Fine Art from Shanghai University in China.  His colorful oil still lifes and landscapes of regional cities have captured the imagination of audiences throughout the D.C. area.   With more than 20 solo exhibitions, Bu’s paintings have been honored in national competitions such as Paint America 100, Paint the Park Top 100, and The Artist Magazine Competition.  He offers instruction to more than 100 students in his studio.

Anastasia Hou, a junior at Walt Whitman High School, paints oil landscapes to illustrate to others the vibrant images that personally connect to her.  She had a solo exhibition at George Mason University in 2009, and won Gold Medal Awards in an All-American Chinese School Brush Painting and Calligraphy Competition.

Richard Zhao is a junior at Good Counsel High School. He paints in oils, focusing mainly on botanical subjects, especially water lilies.  He enjoys the contrast of water lilies surrounded by other colorful flowers.  Zhao won Best of Show for the 2007 Maryland Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition.

Lisa Ou is a senior at Thomas Wootton High School. Working in pencil, pen, watercolor and acrylic, she aspires to paint in a semi-realistic style, capturing not only everyday portraits and scenes, but also surreal and dream-like images in an emotionally provoking manner.  She won Champion Ribbons at the Montgomery Country Fair in 2008.
