See “Taming of the Shrew” for Free at Gaithersburg’s Outdoor Concert Pavilion

“Taming of the Shrew will be performed as part of the Shakespeare on the Lawn series hosted at the City Hall Concert Pavillion. I remember going to see “Much Ado About Nothing” a few years back at the Concert Pavillion, and the Maryland Shakespeare Festival really puts on a  great performance. Go check it out!

Enjoy Shakespeare on the lawn and under the stars as the City of Gaithersburg and the Maryland Shakespeare Festival present “Taming of the Shrew” this July.  Two free performances will take place at the City Hall Concert Pavilion, 31 South Summit Avenue in Olde Towne Gaithersburg.  Please feel free to bring a blanket and a picnic to make the experience even more enjoyable.

The shows are set for Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11 at 8 p.m.  Note that the Friday performance will be sign interpreted.  The rain date if both performances are cancelled due to inclement weather is Sunday, July 12 at 4 p.m.

Maryland’s premier classical company tells the tale of two hot headed lovers battling their way to harmony!  Petruchio wants a rich wife and fancies himself a player. Kate wants out of her house, away from her sister’s simpering suitors, and won’t put up with anyone’s foolishness.  Fireworks fly, rules are broken and no one will be the same in this wacky comedy as true love must find a way to live in peace.  Enjoy this timeless battle of the sexes in a festive atmosphere with KIDZONE pre-show, live music and lots of laughs.

Embracing the definition of “festival” as a celebration, the Maryland Shakespeare Festival gives life to timeless stories, especially those by William Shakespeare, in a manner that inspires, challenges and entertains audiences and artists alike by working to the highest artistic standards.

Shakespeare on the Lawn is part of Gaithersburg’s On Stage outdoor summer entertainment series, presented by the City of Gaithersburg Cultural Arts Advisory Committee and funded in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.  For more information please call 301-258-6350 or visit the City’s website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/onstage.
